Iranell  Johnson

Albany, Georgia - Iranell Johnson, 75, died Wednesday, May 4, 2011 at Willson Hospice House in Albany, Georgia. She was born in Jenkins County, Georgia July 20, 1935. She and her family moved to Savannah in 1943 where she remained until the fall of 2008 when she went to Albany to live with her brother, Wesley.

Iranell was a 1954 graduate of Commercial High School. She worked at the YMCA in Savannah in child care for 16 years. She was a longtime member of Morningside Baptist Church where she served for many years as secretary of the third grade Sunday School Department. In 2006 she joined Southside Baptist Church and at the time of her death was a member of Mercedes Baptist Church in Albany.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Ira and Nellie Johnson, two brothers Herman and Gene Johnson and a sister-in-law Beverly Lewis Johnson.

She is survived by a brother, Wesley Johnson of Albany; sisters-in-law, Betty and Carol Johnson of Savannah, four nieces and six nephews.

The funeral service was held at 11:00 A.M., Friday at Matthews Funeral Home in Albany with Reverend Russell Anglin and Reverend Jerry Willis officiating.

Visitation at Fox and Weeks Funeral Directors, Hodgson Chapel, Monday from 9:30 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. followed by a graveside service at 11:00 a.m. at Hillcrest Abbey Memorial Park with The Reverend Everett Tumblin, and nephew, The Reverend Wayne Johnson officiating.

Ms. Iranell was one of my son's preschool teachers at the Habersham YMCA. John is 17 years old now! She was a wonderful lady who loved each child with all her heart. Both John and I are very thankful to have known Ms. Iranell. We send our condolences to her family during this sad time.
